Hojicha
Hojicha is a roasted green tea from Japan made by roasting Bancha leaves over charcoal. In Japan Hojicha is one of country’s most commonly enjoyed beverages.
The tea leaves are made in a similar method to that of Sencha. First the tea leaves are steamed and dried. Next the dried leaves are roasted over a low temperature that leaves a slightly sweet taste and its unique aroma. The roasting process produces a tea with a reddish color with a very unique flavor.
The roasting process leaves the tea with lower caffeine levels compared to other green teas making it a popular choice to accompany meals.
